To ensure the production of high-quality technical information, all relevant content must be conveyed in such a way that it can be used easily, properly and effectively. Too much, too little information or ambiguous information can lead to confusion, stress and unnecessary effort on the part of readers. This may have potentially dangerous consequences, as it may cause human injuries, as well as costly material consequences.

However, in a world in which products are becoming more complex, it is no surprise that the accompanying technical information is becoming more complex as well. This increases the risk that the content is unclear, while the liability for faulty or incomplete information is becoming a crucial factor.

Nevertheless, product users (including (field service) engineers and consumers) still demand high-quality products, and therefore expect technical information to be directly available and crystal clear. Moreover, product development schedules are increasingly becoming shorter, thereby increasing the pressure on technical publication staff even more due to the time to market. Despite these issues, budgets to support technical publications are shrinking. In response thereto, organizations are focusing on creating technical information more efficiently."
